I cannot stop listening to this song and thinking of Paul Westerberg’s “Seein’ Her” that I posted previously. The structure, the rhythm, sound so similar and yet this song is so sneering, and heartbroken. It’s not wallowing in the heartbreak though, it’s trying to fight back, to prove that he’s right, telling himself that she’ll be worse off without him. Feelings that are as intense and immediate as first falling head over heels, are those of wanting to tell the other person off completely, and to be “right”. Both feelings fade pretty quickly, and that’s why these songs are both so visceral and kickass.
